Over the past three decades, First Health has continued to transform and evolve to become today’s unique managed care company working with clients to manage their total health care cost trend. First Health’s continued growth has borne new ideas and improved ways of managing care and costs.

2005 Acquired by Coventry Health Care, to strengthen our financial position and enhance our products and services, including the First Health network.
2004 Acquired COMP Medical Services, creating First Health Priority Services, a division of our workers’ compensation offering which allows us to specialize in appointment setting for chronic pain management, diagnostic imaging and electrodiagnostic procedures, as well as Medicare set-aside allocations.
2003 Acquired Health Net Employer Services, Inc. (Health Net Plus Managed Care Services, Inc. and Health Net CompAmerica, Inc.) to strengthen the First Health workers’ compensation product offering and enable us to offer a California HCO.
2003 Acquired PPO Oklahoma to enhance the First Health network in the Oklahoma region.
2002 Acquired Claims Administration Corporation, the operational and administrative assets of CNA, to ensure seamless delivery of service to the Mail Handlers Benefit Plan.
2002 Acquired HealthCare VALUE Management, Inc. enhanced the First Health network in the New England region.
2001 Acquired CCN Managed Care, Inc., allowing us to grow our national network and expand our market presence in the auto, group health, TPA and carrier markets.
1998 HealthCare COMPARE changed its name to First Health to reflect the depth and wide range of comprehensive services we offer to the group health and workers compensation sectors.
1997 Acquired FIRST HEALTH (founded in 1960), rounding out our group health offering to include complete health plan services from a single source, including claims administration and pharmacy benefits management, an integral component of effective disease management.
1996 Acquired American Life & Health Insurance Company (est. 1925) and First Health Life and Health Insurance Company, enabling First Health to underwrite medical stop-loss insurance.
1992 Acquired Occupational-Urgent Care Health (OUCH) Systems, Inc. giving us the capability of combining bill review expertise with the strength of our national network and clinical management services.
1983 Acquired AFFORDABLE Health Care Concepts, a regional PPO founded in 1983. With this acquisition, we started building the nation's largest directly contracted network of hospitals, physicians and allied health care professionals. This enabled us to address the cost of services being provided to our clients' plan members, in addition to the volume of services we were already managing.

HEALTHCARE COMPARE is founded by Dr. Robert Becker, a practicing physician, as a utilization review company, differentiated by a high level of physician-to-physician consultation. The primary focus of services was managing the volume of care being recommended.
