Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States claiming more than 500,000 people a year. Nearly 1.1 million Americans suffer heart attacks each year with 27% of men and 42% of women dying within one hour after their attack.
A category of medications called beta-blockers is a group of low cost, effective drugs that have been proven to decrease morbidity (illness) and mortality (death) associated with heart disease. This medication, a beta-blocker, when taken after a heart attack has also been shown to reduce that person’s chances of having another heart attack.
