Reveal How We Make a Difference
Fighting Breast Cancer
This story is about a First Health care
support patient who recently learned that she had breast
cancer. Through
the First Health®
Care Support Program, she was able to receive the
guidance and help she needed while undergoing the
surgery, therapy, and emotions that accompanied her
life-threatening condition.
"You never think it will happen to you."
The diagnosis of breast cancer was just the beginning of
a journey that would take one woman through surgery,
therapy and all the emotional responses that accompany
this potentially life-threatening condition. "You
don't realize how important support is until you go
through something like this," she commented.
"First Health has been there for me, especially my
case manager, and I am so appreciative."
Shortly after she received her diagnosis, this
member received a phone call from a nurse case manager
in First Health's Scottsdale, AZ office. "She
helped me with precertification for all the procedures
that needed to be done," said the member. "She
even gave me her direct phone number so I could call her
any time I needed help or direction. Knowing I could
rely on her helped expedite the whole treatment
process." Two operations and six weeks of radiation
therapy later, this member is on the road to recovery,
keeping a vigilant, but hopeful attitude that she has
won this battle.
